Prof. Bo San Paul Lai
Overview
CV
Prof. Lai graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and received his surgical training in Hong Kong and Edinburgh. After completion of surgical training, he has been working as an academic surgeon at the Prince of Wales Hospital, the teaching hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
On the academic side, Prof. Lai is the Division Chief of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery and Director of the Office of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His major research areas include basic research on hepatocellular carcinoma, clinical research in hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery, enhanced recovery after surgery, surgical outcome research and medical education-related research.
Prof. Paul B. S. Lai was elected as the President of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in September 2016. He has previously served in the College Council as councilor, vice-president, censor-in-chief and chief editor of Surgical Practice (the official journal of CSHK). Apart from being a surgical trainer, he has been organizing college examinations and serving as examiners at the membership examination and exit examination in general surgery. He is also the Director of Surgical Outcome Monitoring and Improvement Program (SOMIP) at the HA, a clinical audit program studying the surgical outcome of all HA hospitals.
