Dr. Y M Tang
Overview
CV
Dr. YM Tang received his B.Sc. and M.Phil. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and was awarded a Ph.D. degree from the same university. After graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Prince of Wales Hospital, and is currently a teaching fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include computer simulation, computer modeling, computer-aided design, finite element analysis (FEA), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), data mining and bio-medical applications. He has over 20 publications in international conferences and journals. He is the reviewer of several renowned journals, including the Journal of Computer-Aided Design and Annals of Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Tang teaches a number of subjects in the business intelligence, data mining, product and process design areas. He achieved a prestigious teaching award at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Besides teaching, he also serves several administration duties at the university. He is the deputy Lab in-charge of the Integrated Product Design Laboratory, Timetabling officer, member of several competition committees, and the subject coordinator of various subjects. Recently, Dr. Tang has completed a Large Equipment Funded project for VR equipment of more than HK$2.4 million. He was a project member of a UGC’s funded project (HK$14,999,340) and the project leader of several Learning and Teaching Development Grant projects, with a total amount more than HK$300,000. Apart from these, he has developed various industrial VR applications such as flight simulation, aircraft maintenance, and rehibition application for the CAVE system and HTC Vive device. In the medical field, VR projects for type and screen training, and blood culture training were developed together with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
