Dr. Joannie Hui

Dr Joannie Hui is Consultant Paediatrician of the Metabolic Medicine Division of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital (HKCH).
Dr. Hui received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. She holds Fellowship with the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh).
Prior to the present posting at HKCH, Dr. Hui worked at the Department of Paediatrics of the Prince of Wales Hospital. Together with colleagues from the Chemical Pathology and Dietetics departments, she set up the Joint Metabolic clinic at the Prince of Wales Hospital in 1997. This clinic aims to offer a comprehensive multi-disciplinary care to patients and their families affected with Inherited Metabolic diseases. Furthering the clinic’s aim of improving the standard of care for metabolic patients and with collaboration from the Chemical Pathology as well as the Obstetrics and Gynecology departments, she launched the pilot Metabolic newborn screening programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in July 2013. She was invited to join the HKSAR Government’s newborn screening programme for Inborn errors of metabolism as work group and task force members since 2015. With the translocation of the programme to HKCH since 2018, Dr Hui & her team has been working closely with the Newborn screening Laboratory, the Clinical Genetics department of Department of Health and all HA Obstetric and Paediatric units towards the territory wide full implementation of the programme.
