Ms SHUM Nga Fan is the Colorectal Nurse Specialist and Cancer Case Manager of the Department of Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital. She qualified as nurse in 1992 and has a Bachelor degree in Nursing, a Master's degree in Health Service Management and a Doctoral degree in Nursing. She has been in her post for the last 13 years with her work focused on cancer case management, care delivery, information and support needs of colorectal cancer patients undergoing treatment. Since 2007, she has helped to pioneer the development of two clinical pathways for colorectal cancer clinical management in Hong Kong with remarkable results. She has set up three colorectal nurse clinics (cancer care, bowel dysfunction and polyp care) aligned with the department’s service direction to meet patients’ different needs. She is the Outstanding Staff of Hospital Authority and of Queen Mary Hospital cum Hong Kong West Cluster in 2009. She is a speaker and teaches various nursing courses in Hong Kong. She has been actively engaged in research activities and has published five papers in peer-reviewed international and local journals. Her research interests include colorectal cancer, quality of life of colorectal cancer patients/carers, bowel dysfunction and telephone intervention.
