Professor Lau Chak-sing is President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, having previously served as Vice-President (Education and Examinations) between 2011 and 2016. He is Chief of Division and Chair and Daniel CK Yu Professor in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong. He also serves as Honorary Chief of Service of the Department of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital.

Professor Lau has been at the forefront of undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. Prior to his current positions, he was Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the Examinations Committee and Chairman of the Specialty Board in Rheumatology/Immunology & Allergy of the Hong Kong College of Physicians, and President of the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) (2006–2008).
