Introduction :
Currently, we are using traditional paper print-out to verify and count the list of instruments for each operation. In order to enhance the exiting operation procedure, we are now proposing to use iPad (Apple Inc.) technology to replace the printing of paper instrument list for counting and checking.
Objectives :
- Goal to achieve the accuracy by using iPad device regarding the better resolution on information display
- Use iPad technology to link up with our Surgical Instrument Tracing System (SITS) to achieve real time information update
- Goal to achieve the cost saving on physical paper print-out and save the environment as well
Methodology :
- Regarding the existing instrument name of content list is too long for reference, it was updated each instruments with a shorter and easier reference name.
- Firstly applied the iPad technology in N5, N7, and N9 operating theatre to test on Wi-Fi signal stability and connectivity
- A trail run by using the iPad technology in operating theatre for instrument counting
- Distrubute iPad device to each operating theater and provide instruction for dedicated staffs on how to operating the iPad technology to login to SITS
- Provide instruction for the nursing staffs by using iPad technology to perform “Bar Code scanning” to scan the instrument voucher
Result & Outcome :
Results:
The instrument counting by using iPad device is good usability in this technology.
iPad can provide colour display, image extension function and better display resolution which can help us to read into the detail parts of the instrument and arise our awareness of each small parts of instrument. Conclusion:
To conclude the benefits of using iPad technology apply in operating theatre for instrument counting, we are supporting to have new technology of which aimed to improve the operational performance and enhance the operational procedure in operating theatre.
