Cytotoxic drugs spillage is well known to be hazardous and could be harmful to our staff and patients. Apart from organizing a spillage drill yearly, an educational spillage management video was to provide a more feasible and convenient learning method.
Objectives :
1. To enhance the staff competence on chemotherapy spillage management.
2. To provide a convenient method for delivery spillage management education to staff.
Methodology :
1. Form a Spillage management team including ward manager, APN and two senior RN (with PRCC in oncology or hematology).
2. Design a spillage scenario which based on the spillage incidents happened worldwide.
3. Cast the video by spillage team members and AV department.
4. The video would demonstrate the procedures in handling the spillage, with reference to the spillage management guideline.
5. Moreover, subtitles and instructions for each critical step had been added to the video as guidance.
7. The video was uploaded to ward computer and share point and all staff could assess easily.
Result & Outcome :
All staff (Nurses and HCAs) are mandated to watch for revision 6 months after the yearly spillage drill on a compulsory basis. Staff always being welcomed to watch the video when there is doubt or necessary. Total 38 staff in 9B watched the video. Post test with 10 questions is done and all the staff passed the exam with passing mark as 80%. Post questionnaires are also given to staff.
