Introduction :
Cardiac arrest always comes taciturnity, unexpected, and flustered. HCP needs self-equipped themselves at any moment to benefit the victim’s survival rate. Evidence indicated that resuscitation training can enhance HCPs’ knowledge, practical skills and performance in CPR procedure. Department of Psychiatric of PYNEH had implemented series resuscitation training programs for psychiatrists and nurses with collaboration of A&E.
Objectives :
- To update the latest knowledge, guideline and protocol about resuscitation. - To enhance the awareness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation practical skills.
Methodology :
A series of training programs were conducted by Department of Psychiatry, which provides CPR training through education, workshops and collaboration to psychiatrists and nurses. Nurses would have sponsors to attend Basic Life Support training every 3 years, also could apply sponsorship to attend other resuscitation related training, so they could receive the latest effective resuscitation knowledge and technique. Nurses would attend ward CPR drill every 2 months. Department CPR Drill for psychiatrists and nurses would be organized every 6 months by Department of Psychiatric. So, they would have opportunity to practice their skills, review the latest and updated American Heart Association resuscitation guideline, understand the clinical needs. Doctors from A&E department were invited to become the speaker would provide teaching sessions and participate in the department CPR drill annually. Furthermore, 2 video clips were produced to promote resuscitation technique for clinical HCPs. One video clip is about Nurse-Initiated Defibrillation, and other is about briefing on end-tidal CO2 detector operation.
Result & Outcome :
Total 194 HCPs had attended the department CPR drill in 2017 and 2018. Total 98% participants agreed the department CPR drill met their needs. To measure the effectiveness of the drill, participants were asked to complete a pre- and post-CPR drill test. Only 60% of participants got full marks in pre-test. But after the drill, nearly 80% of participants got full marks in post-test which showed the knowledge enhancement in CPR for participants. CPR program was implemented successfully in these 2 years. It cannot only enhanced HCPs resuscitation knowledge, experience, and practical skills, but to increase their confidence to deal with the unexpected cardiac arrest incidents that leads to improve HCPs' performance and the victims' survival rate.
