Introduction :
Vocal announcement is an effective way to disseminate messages of concerns to target audiences. It was adopted in this project to promote ward safety and harmony. Safety and harmony can never be achieved without the involvement and partnership of stakeholders. In ward, in-patients and visitors are beyond any doubt significant stakeholders and desirable partners. There is a meaningful rhetoric - ‘No decision about me, without me’. Hence, in-patients and visitors were involved in the process of co-production of the vocal announcement.
Objectives :
- To enhance partnership with in-patients and visitors through the process of co-production
- To co-produce a vocal announcement with consensus among all stakeholders
- To cultivate a safe and harmonious atmosphere in ward
Methodology :
A Co-production Model with seven steps was adopted: -
1. Commitment: To introduce and share the idea of vocal announcement in promoting safety and harmony in ward
2. Consensus: To invite stakeholders of in-patients, visitors, nurses and supporting staff
3. Recognition: To perform opinion collection and sharing so as to determine the common concerns
4. Implementation: To finalize the content of vocal announcement and set broadcasting schedule after trial runs
5. Awareness: To design and post up posters in patient area and visiting room
6. Operation: To commence and integrate it as a routine
7. Review: To evaluate the outcome with ongoing update on further ‘concerns’ whenever necessary
Result & Outcome :
The co-produced vocal announcement was named as ‘We concern’ in English and 《關顧資訊》in Chinese. Its contents covered prevention of infection, protection of privacy, anti-smoking policy and other warm reminders. Two versions of vocal announcement (Target audiences: Patients 《院友篇》and Visitors 《探訪者篇》) were made with corresponding A3-sized posters for dissemination. The broadcasting of each version was scheduled twice daily as day-to-day routine. After implementation, an evaluation by a questionnaire survey was conducted and all stakeholders were invited. The overall results were positive and encouraging without negative comment. 33% and 60% respondents totally agreed and agreed with the co-production experience, quality of vocal announcement and its effectiveness respectively. Through co-production, the level of partnership with in-patients and visitors was highly enhanced. It goes further beyond ‘You said, we did’, but became ‘We said, we did’. Importantly, we can accomplish desirable outcome:- promoting safety and harmony in ward together hand-in-hand.
