Introduction :
In this “Big Data” generation, we have a strong drive to develop a data bank for data analysis to evaluate and improve our services quality, efficiency and facilitate better allocation of department resources. In 2017, we collaborated with an IT company to develop an encrypted wireless data bank known as Mobile Outcome Measure (MOM). Data can be collected and stored in a secured Wi-Fi network via mobile tablets and it can also be extracted to excel file for analysis. Furthermore, patient’s summary can be reviewed by this system easily.
Objectives :
1. To provide a convenient and secure platform for patient data collection
2. To provide a data bank for services program evaluation.
3. To provide a convenient means for therapists to review patients’ profile.
Methodology :
Prototype of MOM was designed in June 2017, continuous trial and feedback were provided to the IT Company. MOM was then fully implemented in physical unit of Occupational Therapy in Shatin Hospital from Jan 2018.
Patient Data including Data base, Standardized assessment results and treatment interventions and service programs were input into MOM via mobile tablets and smart phones. The collected data can be evaluated according to different parameters including ward base, team base, specialty base, diagnosis base and program base. Thus, provide an easy and quick access for clinical use in service and program evaluation and for administrative use in resource allocation and projection.
Result & Outcome :
From Jan 18 to Dec 18, 2018, 6,656 patient data was collected by the use of MOM.
Within which, 4641 from Medical & Geriatric team, 608 from Neurology and Stroke, 270 from Surgical, 604 from Palliative care and others. Majority of the patients (N=2564) belongs to the 80-89 age group and 68.3% of the patients (N=4532) were admitted from home. These data were used for better resources allocation and manpower planning in 2019. In addition, data collected from MOM were also widely used for evaluation of treatment outcome including 365 stroke rehab program, fall prevention program, COPD education protocol, etc. These data were also transported to excel for statistical analysis as outcome evaluation for the programs and provide indicators for future development. MOM has proven to be an easy access and efficient tool for use in enhancement of clinical and administrative work in daily operation.
