Introduction :
The slit lamp is an instrument consisting of a high-intensity light source that can be focused to shine a thin sheet of light into the eye. It is used in conjunction with a biomicroscope. The lamp facilitates an examination of the anterior segment and posterior segment of the human eye, which includes the eyelid, sclera, conjunctiva, iris, natural crystalline lens, and cornea. The binocular slit-lamp examination provides a stereoscopic magnified view of the eye structures in detail, enabling anatomical diagnoses to be made for a variety of eye conditions. Although the slit lamp light bulb has a lifespan of 50,000 hours or more, but the improper use will reduce its lifespan, e.g. prolong switch on the power of light bulb. It will further create inconvenience and economic burden to department when frequent repair works if necessary. But how to effectively implement the measures to ensure the staff should switch off the power after used especially in the most busy working place in Accident & Emergency Department (AED). How to ensure the staff have turned off the power is the most challenge to our project
Objectives :
To unify and provide message, measures, and procedures necessary to implement standard use and care of slit lamp but convenience is the top priority
Methodology :
Team members (doctors, nurses, EMSD) had performed discussion and site visits to explore any measures or facilities could be enhanced and added. An outside power-off control equipment is suggested to install, but which type is the most appropriate, economy, and flexibility. All the information and measures has been considered and designed, then a simple and economy equipment is selected in Oct 2018
Result & Outcome :
The application of the developed appliance can successfully achieve the service demand and ensure clinical safety. The cost for the control is only HK$70. The physician is just needed to press a button and then the power will be cut off after 10 mins. No extra-staff training on installation and application of the devices are necessary. There are affirmative comment is obtained from physician
