Introduction :
Standardized guidelines and protocol on management of patient’s fall and missing incident are well established in both cluster and department level. However, patients’ fall and missing incident fall in the category of patients’ safety and security arena which give rise to nurses’ great concern. Thus, an educational talk on “Intensifying on the Management of Patient’s Fall and Missing incident” was held in 2018.
Objectives :
The aim is to intensifying nurses’ understanding and familiarity with the rationales of standard guidelines and protocol, concise workflow and helpful telephone contact in dealing with alarming emergency situations related to patients’ fall and missing
Methodology :
An educational talk was set up with preparation of power-point presentation.
Updated cluster and department guidelines in dealing with patient’s fall and missing incident are employed in enhancing nurses’ understanding of the rationale behind.
Concise workflow in preventing and managing the fall and missing incidents are extracted and presented in equipping nurses’ knowledge with immediate actions in dealing with the captioned incidents. Cue card with related telephone contact preset by hospital was introduced to support and accelerated rapid remedy actions with helping hands. Questionnaire was established to evaluate nurses’ comment on the value of the talk as well as the information proffered.
Result & Outcome :
A total of 24 staffs participated.
The topics of the talk were evaluated as valuable in daily clinical practice with mean score of 8.6 / 10 satisfaction rate. The strategies and content of the talks are criticized as applicable in daily practice with mean score of 8.6 / 10.
Participants found the talk can enhance their knowledge in the clinical management of patient’s fall and missing incidents with mean score of 8/10.
Participants also agreed that the strategies introduced in the talk help them in understanding the Department and HA policy relating to management of patient’s fall and missing incident (mean score 8.1/10). Indeed, nurses need to be understood and familiar with the standardized guidelines and protocol on management of patient’s fall and missing incident. Prompt and correct nursing actions may save patient’s life and prevent subsequent disaster consequences.
