Introduction :
Seasonal influenza causes a significant burden to the public healthcare system in Hong Kong every year. To dovetail the Government Vaccination Programme, the Hospital Authority (HA) has been encouraging eligible individuals and especially HA colleagues to receive seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) as early as possible every year in order to enhance their immunity against influenza. In this regard, Hospitals have organized various activities and offer modest incentives to promote staff vaccination. Mobile vaccination teams were set up to make the vaccination more timesaving and convenient to staff so as to facilitate the programme effectiveness .
Easy access to the latest public and staff vaccination data is essential for programme monitoring and effective promotion. In view of the need, the Information Technology and Health Informatics Division from the HA Head Office (HOIT&HI) has agilely developed a SIV dashboard in the Management Information Portal (MIPo) enabling the managerial staff to graphically view the latest SIV progress for public and HA staff with statistics breakdown by HA overall level, cluster level and hospital level available as well.
Objectives :
To facilitate the management and other approved persons to monitor the latest progress of SIV for public and HA staff by cluster and by hospital at a glance.
Methodology :
Deliberation of calculation rules and definition is required before the developing of such dashboard. Formulation of the denominator of clusters and institutions for staff vaccination rate is achieved by the manpower strength of HA staff provided by HO Human Resources Division with breakdowns into staff groups, clusters and institutions.
Various dashboard features are developed to meet the need such as,
• Graphical presentation of the statistics so that the progress and trend of vaccination can be viewed at a glance
• All graphs and charts as well as raw statistics are allowed to export for users’ further analysis and presentation
• Auto email to designated recipients about the GVP update
Besides, in response to the need for the vaccination statistics for HAHO staff, a new eligibility reason for staff “10e*-HA Staff Category-Others (HAHO)” was set in CMS Corporate Immunization Module to segregate and capture the vaccination statistics for HAHO staff.
Result & Outcome :
The public vaccination rate by cluster and the HA staff vaccination rate by cluster and by hospital reflection in MIPo Management Dashboard were available on 11 Oct 2018 to meet the GVP 2018/19 start date for HA staff. Beside providing the Managerial and approved staff with the latest public and staff vaccination rate and trend at a glance, the Dashboard provides an additional tool for them to formulate effective promotion strategy.
